Temperature affects plant growth by influencing cellular activities such as photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration. Houseplants can only survive within a relatively narrow temperature range. And even if plants manage to survive outside their optimal range, they often stop growing.
In addition, some plant species react very sensitively to temperature changes, even if these only last a few minutes (ventilation in winter, blazing midday sun in summer). This is referred to as cold or heat shock.
